The music preparatory program for preschool is based on a playful and experiential approach, which places the child at the center as an active protagonist of their own learning. Music is seen as a universal language that allows children to explore, communicate, and develop their cognitive, emotional, and social skills through interaction with sound and movement. The approach used is inspired by well-established pedagogical methodologies such as the Orff Method, the Gordon Method, and other educational theories developed in the field, adapting them to the needs and characteristics of child development.
Developing musical perception through listening, movement, and improvisation
The primary goal of the program is to stimulate children's ability to perceive and understand sounds, rhythms, and melodies. Through listening to music of various genres, children will learn to recognize different timbres, dynamics, and pitches, developing their musical sensitivity. Movement will be used as a tool to explore rhythm, through dances and body games that will help them internalize the concept of musical time in a fun and engaging way. Improvisation will allow them to freely express their emotions and explore new sounds.
Introducing children to different musical languages and informal reading
The program aims to expose children to a variety of musical styles, from classical to ethnic, including folk, jazz, and contemporary music. Each musical genre will be presented in an accessible way, encouraging children to recognize differences in rhythm, tempo, and tonality. Informal music reading, which does not yet require an in-depth knowledge of traditional musical notation, will be introduced through graphic symbols, colors, and shapes, making music visible and understandable even to those unfamiliar with conventional note reading. This approach will enable children to read and understand simple rhythmic and melodic patterns, developing their ability to express themselves musically.
Encouraging body and vocal exploration as musical instruments
A fundamental aspect of the program is the use of the body and voice as real musical instruments. Children will be invited to explore movement and voice as expressive means to create sounds and rhythms, developing their motor coordination and awareness of their own body in space. Through body percussion activities, vocal games, and singing, children will learn to use their bodies and voices to produce music creatively. Vocal exploration will include activities such as singing simple melodies, repeating sounds and words, and playing with different vocal qualities (pitch, intensity, timbre). This approach contributes not only to musical development but also to emotional and social growth, as music becomes a tool for expression and communication.
Discovering the sounds and rhythms of ethnic percussion
The program introduces children to the richness of sounds from ethnic percussion instruments of different musical traditions around the world. Children will explore instruments such as djembe, congas, bongos, African drums, and Brazilian percussion, learning to recognize and reproduce the typical sounds of each. The goal is to stimulate curiosity about the variety of rhythms and timbres from different cultures, allowing children to come into contact with musical traditions that are distant yet universal at the same time. This point promotes not only musical awareness but also respect and appreciation for cultural diversity.
Building percussion instruments with recycled materials
Another important goal of the program is to develop children's creativity through the construction of musical instruments. Using recycled materials such as bottles, boxes, caps, paper, wood, and metal, children will have the opportunity to create their own personalized percussion instruments. This activity promotes practical and manual learning, stimulating their problem-solving skills and environmental awareness. Moreover, through the construction of instruments, children will learn to recognize the sound that each material can produce, developing a deeper understanding of the relationship between matter, sound, and music.
Movement games and body dance in relation to music
A fundamental goal of the program is to develop body and movement awareness in relation to music. Children will be encouraged to explore different types of movement in response to various musical styles, from free movement to structured dances. Dance and movement activities will help children understand musical concepts such as rhythm, speed, intensity, and dynamics, creating a direct link between body and sound. Through play and bodily interaction with music, children will develop a natural understanding of musical time, improving their coordination, creative expression, and self-confidence. The integration of movement with music also stimulates non-verbal communication and socialization, fostering group learning and empathy.
Active and playful learning: Each child is encouraged to explore music spontaneously, playing with sounds and rhythms through practical and engaging activities. Music becomes a form of play that stimulates curiosity and creativity, fostering learning through doing.
Integration of music and movement: The body is used as an instrument to explore rhythm, melody, and harmony. Body percussion and dance activities are fundamental for developing motor coordination, sense of rhythm, and body awareness. Music and movement are inseparable and support each other in the learning process.
Development of expressive abilities: The program does not just teach musical technique, but encourages each child to develop their own expressive abilities. Singing, vocal play, and body movement are used to express emotions, stories, and ideas, allowing children to communicate through music and movement.
Multisensory education: The approach is strongly multisensory, as it stimulates not only hearing, but also sight, touch, and movement. Informal reading of music through symbols and images makes music accessible even to the youngest, offering them an immediate understanding of musical concepts without the need for advanced theoretical knowledge.
Integration of different cultural musical traditions: The program includes the exploration of different musical traditions through listening and practicing ethnic instruments and various musical genres, such as African, Brazilian, traditional southern Italian, jazz, and classical music. This approach helps children develop intercultural sensitivity, teaching them to respect and appreciate diversity.
Creativity and autonomy: The proposed activities encourage individual and group creativity, giving children the opportunity to improvise, invent, and experiment with music. The construction of musical instruments with recycled materials, as well as composition and improvisation activities, stimulate autonomy and critical thinking.
Inclusive and collaborative environment: Every child, regardless of their abilities, is welcomed into an environment that promotes inclusion, collaboration, and mutual respect. Music becomes a bridge that unites, fostering socialization and the development of relational skills through play and musical interaction.
